Ingredients
Scale
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/4 cup water, as needed
Instructions
- Cook the chopped bacon in a saucepan over medium heat until crispy and golden brown.
- Remove the bacon and set it aside. Leave about 1 tablespoon of bacon fat in the pan.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 to 60 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, smoked paprika, onion powder, black pepper and cayenne.
- Add the crispy bacon back into the saucepan and mix everything together.
- Simmer over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and develops a rich, glossy texture.
- Add a little water if the sauce becomes too thick.
- For a smoother consistency, carefully blend the sauce after cooking. For a chunky, bacon-packed sauce, leave it as it is.
- Let cool slightly and serve with your favorite BBQ dishes.
