Description
A delightful mix of savory beef, crispy potatoes, creamy sauce, and fresh greens that redefine comfort food.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ground Beef (or ground turkey or plant-based crumbles)
- 4 medium Red Potatoes (or riced cauliflower for low-carb)
- 1 medium Onion (diced, caramelized)
- 1 cup Shredded Cheese (Colby Jack or pepper jack)
- 1/2 cup Mayo (or Greek yogurt)
- 1/4 cup Ketchup (low-sugar)
- 1 tbsp Mustard (Dijon for a twist)
- 1 tbsp Cajun Seasoning (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup Pickles (or cucumbers)
- 2 cups Lettuce (any mix of leafy greens)
Instructions
- Prepare your ingredients: Start by washing and chopping your veggies. Dice the onions and slice the pickles while your potatoes are cooking.
- Cook the potatoes: Boil the red potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15-20 minutes). Drain and let them cool. Once cool, cut them into cubes and set aside.
- Caramelize the onions: In a skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil. Toss in the diced onion and cook until they’re golden brown and sweet (approximately 10 minutes). Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Cook the burgers: In a large skillet or griddle, increase the temperature to high. Form the ground beef into patties—don’t compact them too tightly. Place them on the hot surface and use a spatula to smash each patty flat. Season generously with Cajun seasoning. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until a crust forms, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes. Add cheese to each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
- Assemble the bowl: In individual serving bowls, layer a bed of fresh lettuce and the prepped potatoes. Gently place the cooked burgers on top, followed by a generous scoop of caramelized onions. Top each bowl with pickles.
- Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, and Dijon mustard until smooth. Drizzle over the bowl to finish.
- Serve and enjoy: Dive into your deliciously crafted Savory Smash Burger Bowl while it’s warm. Enjoy the layers of flavor and texture!
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the onions and sauce in advance to eliminate last-minute stress. Cooking alternatives include using an air fryer for potatoes and grilling burgers outside.
