A one-pan wonder that combines savory ground beef, rich tomato sauce, and aromatic spices for a quick and easy Mexican feast.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Brown the beef: Heat your large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, using your wooden spoon to break it apart.
- Sauté the aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the beef. Stir and let them cook together for 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
- Stir in tomatoes and spices: Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Season with chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together.
- Simmer the skillet: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and let it bubble for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Melt the cheese: If using cheese, sprinkle it generously over the top and cover the pan with a lid until the cheese melts.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with freshly chopped cilantro before serving.
Notes
Make-ahead by preparing in advance to let the flavors deepen overnight. Suitable for substitutions with ground turkey or plant-based meat.
