- 2 slices of bread (sourdough, whole grain, or classic white)
- 2 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or Gruyère)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Optional fillings (crispy bacon, fresh tomato slices, or ripe avocado)
Instructions
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Butter one side of a slice of bread and place it in the skillet butter-side down.
- Add cheese slices on top of the bread.
- Top with another slice of bread, butter-side up.
- Cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Flip the sandwich gently using a spatula and cook the other side until golden and the cheese has melted, another 3-4 minutes.
