Description

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground pork (or turkey, chicken, or beef)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated (or 1 tsp ground ginger)
  • 1 bag (14 oz) coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage & carrots)
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sriracha or chili paste (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced for garnish
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 2-3 minutes, until softened and caramelized.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground pork, breaking it up while it cooks until browned and fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Toss in the coleslaw mix, stirring well and cooking for another 3-4 minutes.
  6. Pour in the soy sauce and rice vinegar, mixing thoroughly, and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and sriracha for heat.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Notes

This dish can be customized with extra vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas and can be made vegetarian using tofu or tempeh.
