Instructions

- Combine the brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan.
- Add milk gradually while whisking to avoid lumps. Place over medium heat.
- Stir constantly until thick and bubbling.
- Temper the egg yolks in a separate bowl, then mix with a small amount of the hot filling.
- Combine the tempered yolk mixture back into the saucepan.
- Add butter and vanilla, cooking for another minute.
- Pour the filling into the cooled pie crust and smooth the top.
- Chill for at least 2 hours in the refrigerator.
