Description

A delightful dish combining tender beef and vibrant broccoli in a savory sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners or special gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 head broccoli (cut into bite-sized florets)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons ginger (minced)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the beef: Slice the flank steak against the grain into 0.5 cm thick slices or cut into sticks about 1 cm wide.
  2. Transfer the beef to a bowl and add soy sauce, peanut oil, and cornstarch. Mix well and marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Prepare the sauce by mixing chicken stock, Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl.
  4. Pour water into a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Once boiling, add broccoli and steam for about a minute.
  5. Add peanut oil to the skillet and heat. Then, add the marinated beef in a single layer and let it sear for about 30 seconds.
  6. Flip the beef and stir until lightly charred, keeping it juicy.
  7. Stir in minced garlic and ginger, cooking until fragrant.
  8. Return the broccoli, stir, then pour in the sauce. Cook until it thickens, about a minute.
  9. Serve immediately on a plate and enjoy the aroma!

Notes

Marinate the beef ahead of time for deeper flavor. Feel free to add other vegetables based on your preference.
