Description
Delightful jelly-filled donuts that are perfectly golden brown with a sweet, soft interior and a burst of fruity jam.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup fruit jam or jelly (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 packet of instant yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Whisk together 1/2 cup of warm milk, 2 large eggs, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter until well blended in a separate bowl.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir with a spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough out to a thickness of about 1/2 inch on a floured surface and cut out circles using a round cutter.
- Put a teaspoon of fruit jam or jelly in the center of half the dough circles, top with another circle, and gently press the edges to seal.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C), then carefully drop a few donuts into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts from the oil and transfer them to paper towels to drain excess oil. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute milk with almond or oat milk. Let the donuts rise perfectly for a fluffy texture.
