Description

Indulge in succulent pieces of chicken marinated and fried to golden perfection, enveloped in a spicy and savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts or Thighs
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 piece Egg White
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 23 Dried Red Chilies or Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1/2 cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Garlic Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar or Honey
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Sliced Green Onions
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • Thin Strips of Fried Onion or Bell Pepper

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with cornstarch, egg white, salt, and black pepper. Let the chicken marinate for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Heat the Oil: In a wok or large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Carefully place marinated chicken into the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5–6 minutes.
  4. Make the Sauce: In the same pan, remove excess oil and add sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and dried chilies. Sauté until fragrant, then add ketchup, soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, vinegar, and sugar.
  5. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Add crispy chicken back into the pan, tossing to coat. Add water if the sauce is too thick.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds, and fried onions or bell pepper strips.

Notes

For a healthier option, try air-frying or baking the chicken instead of frying.
