Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Combine 1 cup water and 1/2 cup unsalted butter in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Add 1 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt, stirring until a cohesive ball forms.
- Remove from heat and cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Beat in 4 large eggs, one at a time, until smooth and shiny.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag and pipe small mounds onto an unlined baking sheet.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
- Cool completely on the baking sheet.
- Whip 1 cup heavy cream with 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Fill each cooled profiterole with whipped cream.
- Melt 8 ounces dark chocolate and drizzle over the filled profiteroles.
- Decorate with edible gold leaf before serving.
Notes
For best results, use room temperature eggs and avoid opening the oven too early.
