Description
Chicken Biryani is a flavorful and aromatic rice dish made with marinated chicken, basmati rice, and a blend of spices, perfect for any occasion.

- 2 cups basmati rice
- 500 grams chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2–3 green chilies, slit
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- Fresh mint leaves, chopped
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it for 30 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat the oil and sauté the sliced onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and cook for a minute.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, yogurt, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the chicken is tender.
- Add the soaked rice and water to the pot, and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let it sit for 10 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
- Garnish with fresh coriander and mint leaves before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add saffron soaked in warm milk.
- Adjust the spice level according to your preference.
- Serve with raita or salad for a complete meal.
