Description

Chicken Biryani is a flavorful and aromatic rice dish made with marinated chicken, basmati rice, and a blend of spices, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 500 grams chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 23 green chilies, slit
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, heat the oil and sauté the sliced onions until golden brown.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and cook for a minute.
  4. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  5. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, yogurt, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the chicken is tender.
  6. Add the soaked rice and water to the pot, and bring to a boil.
  7. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  8. Remove from heat and let it sit for 10 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander and mint leaves before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add saffron soaked in warm milk.
  • Adjust the spice level according to your preference.
  • Serve with raita or salad for a complete meal.
