Description

Butter Chicken is a rich and creamy dish made with marinated chicken cooked in a spiced tomato sauce, perfect for serving with rice or naan.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and chili powder. Add chicken pieces and marinate for at least 1 hour.
  2. In a large pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another minute.
  4. Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
  5. Stir in the tomato puree and simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat and add heavy cream, stirring until well combined. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Season with salt to taste and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, increase the amount of chili powder.
  • Serve with basmati rice or naan for a complete meal.
