Butter Chicken is a rich and creamy dish made with marinated chicken cooked in a spiced tomato sauce, perfect for serving with rice or naan.

- 1 lb chicken breast, cut into pieces
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato puree
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and chili powder. Add chicken pieces and marinate for at least 1 hour.
- In a large pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Add minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another minute.
- Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the tomato puree and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Reduce heat and add heavy cream, stirring until well combined. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Season with salt to taste and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier version, increase the amount of chili powder.
- Serve with basmati rice or naan for a complete meal.
- This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated.
