- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pan.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- Beat butter and sugar in another bowl until creamy, then add the egg and vanilla.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk.
- Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool donuts briefly in the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
- Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze before placing them back on the rack to set.
Notes
For variations, consider adding chocolate chips, nuts, or fruits to the batter. Can also be made gluten-free with appropriate flour substitutes.
