- 2 cups navy beans, soaked overnight
- 6 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 onion, diced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Drain and rinse the soaked beans.
- In a large pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté the onion until translucent.
- Add the beans, bacon, brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover with foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender.
- Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to allow the top to brown.
Notes
- For a smokier flavor, use smoked bacon.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
- Serve with cornbread for a complete meal.
