Ingredients

  • 2 cups navy beans, soaked overnight
  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Drain and rinse the soaked beans.
  3. In a large pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pot, sauté the onion until translucent.
  5. Add the beans, bacon, brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  6. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover with foil.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender.
  9. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to allow the top to brown.

Notes

  • For a smokier flavor, use smoked bacon.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • Serve with cornbread for a complete meal.
